Anthony Carter, known as Mighty Gabby is a Barbadian calypsonian and a Cultural Ambassador for the island of Barbados. He won the calypso crown in Barbados at age 19 in 1968 and went on to win the Calypso king title again in 1969, 1976, 1985, 1999, 2000 and again in 2010. He has written over 700 songs and was awarded Folk Singer Of The Year in 1977, 1978, 1979. He wrote a song about the Cuban 5 called FREE THEM. Mighty Gabby recently participated in the “5 Days for the Cuban 5” in Washington DC and performed in a number of activities.

Although Cuba’s recent 21st annual international book fair is well-known to many, especially those who receive news from progressive news agencies throughout the world, what is not so well-known is that in this year’s fair there was a performing arts sector which included a special tribute to Jamaican Reggae icon Bob Marley.
Bob and Reggae are very popular in Cuba and both have had a strong impact on music in that country.
