As part of the second Days of Action Against the Blockade

taking place in Washington, D.C. next week, the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity will host the premiere showing of the powerful documentary filmThe Power of the Weak.”

This documentary by German filmmaker Tobias Kriele, tells the story of Jorge “Jorgito” Jérez, who was born with cerebral palsy in Cuba in 1993 during the Special Period. Provided with care from birth by Cuba’s world-renowned health care and education systems, Jorgito is now a self-sufficient, independent young journalist contributing to Cuban society. The Power of the Weak chronicles Jorgito’s life and the social support available to him in Cuba. It will be screened multiple times during the Days of Action.
Helene Maxwell, retired Disability Services Coordinator at the College of Alameda, attended a viewing of the film in the California Bay Area and commented, “I was moved by Jorgito’s telling of his growing up in Cuba, where resources were limited but the society was fully committed to his development.  As an outspoken advocate for the Cuban revolution and for persons with disabilities, Jorgito is a remarkable young man whose story will stay with you.”
Nancy Kohn of the International Committee added, “We are glad Jorgito can be with us in Washington D.C. during the Second Days of Actions Against the Blockade. Given the distortion and misinformation campaign in our media, it is very important for people in the U.S. to hear directly from Cubans about the realities of the Cuban experience.”
The film will be shown on two occasions in the D.C. area. On Wednesday April 20 at 7:00pm it is showing at American University and on Thursday April 21 at 4:00pm

it will be at the University of the District of Columbia. Filmmaker Tobias Kriele and Jorgito Jérez will be in attendance at both of these showings.
