‘Girl You Know It’s True’: Cornel West Says Hillary Clinton is the Milli Vanilli of US Politics
Giving only lip-service to social justice policies
The U.S. philosopher Cornel West accused Hillary Clinton of only giving “lip service” to social justice policies, comparing her to German duo Milli Vanilli, whose Grammy award was revoked after it was revealed that the pair had not actually sung their songs, but lipsynched to other singers.
“Sister Hillary Clinton is the Milli Vanilli of American politics … She lip-syncs, she gives lip service. But when it comes to policy, who supported the crime bill? Who supported, not just the deregulating of banks, but also pulled the rug from under welfare?” West said in an interview on CNN.

West, a Sanders supporter
West, a Sanders supporter who is also a prominent member of the Democratic Socialists of America, said last week that the Vermont senator is “better for black people” than his Democratic rival Clinton. He officially endorsed Sanders in August and has given speeches on his behalf at historically black colleges and universities.
West also called out Clinton’s relationship with the Black community.

“On the ground she is calling Black youth super predators in the 1990s,” he said. “That is the most demeaning, degrading language to our precious young folk.”
Sanders, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, branded his historic and decisive victory in the Democratic primary in New Hampshire as a rebuff to “establishment politics” and the beginning of a “political revolution” in the U.S. However, Clinton narrowly defeated him in the Nevada caucuses. The two candidates will face off next in South Carolina on Saturday – a state with a large African-American population.
