Poll Reaffirms: Two-thirds of Ecuadoreans believe President Correa is doing a good/very good job

President Rafael Correa’s work was described as “very good” and “good” by 65% and 67% of people surveyed in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca, the largest cities in the country, according to a poll published Wednesday by the Investigations and Specialized Studies Center (Ciees).

Positive descriptions for the head of state’s work after eight years in charge of the government reached 65% with 53% considering his work as “good” and 13% as “very good”, while 28% described it as “very bad”.  2% replied in the category “does not know or does not answer.”

Meanwhile in the port city Guayaquil, 67% positively evaluated the president’s administration and 31% negatively. In particular, 55% described his work as “good”; 12% as “very good”; 26% as “bad”; 3% as “very bad” and 3% “does not know or does not answer.”

Finally, in Cuenca,  the number of “very good” descriptions was the highest of the cities surveyed and it was 21% while 46% considered the chief of state’s work as “good”; 26% answered “bad”; 4% “very bad” and 3% “does not know or does not answer.”

The survey was applied to 1,940 people in July, according to Ciees. The level of reliability is 95% and the margin of error+/- 3%.

Last week, another study of the Perfiles de Opinion (Profile Opinion) company indicated that 65,5% of Ecuadorians surveyed described President Correa’s work as “good” and “very good” in comparison to 34,4% that described it as “bad” or “very bad”. The survey was applied to 622 people in Quito and Guayaquil between June 30 and July 1.

Correa was voted among the top 5 most popular leaders in the world in a global poll earlier in 2015. Correa remains widely popular among the working class and poor. Supporters point to Ecuador’s solid economic growth under Correa, along with massive reductions in poverty and expansion of public services.
