The United States may still be attempting to remove the Cuban Communist Party from power, in spite of a public promise from President Barack Obama disowning “regime change,” warned an island nation foreign ministry official on Thursday.

What happens in practice

With only three days to go before Cuba and the U.S. reopen embassies in each others’ nations after 54 years, Cuba said the United States needs to abandon its policy of regime change if Washington really wants better ties with the Caribbean nation. “You have to appreciate the words of the president … but you also have to see what happens in practice,” Gustavo Machin, the deputy director for U.S. affairs in the Cuban Foreign Ministry, said during a news conference.

In April, Obama told reporters at the Summit of the Americas in Panama that regarding Cuba, “We are not in the business of regime change.” The normalization of relations process began in December 2014.

The U.S. president’s statement came after a face-to-face meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro. And it signaled a break from U.S. efforts to overthrow or destabilize the Cuban government since former President Fidel Castro came to power in a 1959 revolution.

Washington’s hostile efforts

But, Machin insisted, “We haven’t seen anything suggesting practical change.” The diplomatic official cited multimillion-dollar annual budgets for what are commonly called the Cuban democracy programs, which Cuba believes are Washington’s hostile efforts to undermine its government and socialist political system. In fact, according to Reuters, the 2016 U.S. State Department budget request contemplated US$20 million for such programs to aid victims of political repression, support civil society and promote free speech.

“We recognize the statement by the president, but you have to see the practical impact of what happens, don’t you?” Machin reiterated. Diplomatic relations will be restored on Monday when the so-called interests sections in Washington and Havana will be upgraded to embassies. For the first time since 1959, a Cuban foreign minister will travel to the United States on Monday, when Cuba will hold a ceremony in Washington with some 500 guests and a delegation led by the Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Machin announced.

Washington has yet to schedule U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Havana to raise the American flag. Following the reopening of embassies, Cuban and U.S. officials are expected to begin talks to further normalize relations. Cuba has insisted that in order for relations to be considered fully normalized, the United States needs to lift the illegal blockade on Cuba and return Guantanamo Bay to Havana.

  1. To expect the American imperialists to give up their strategy to not simply try to remove the Cuban Communist Party or CCP from power is to expect a leopard to change its skin. Indeed, to expect the imperialists not to try to overthrow the political economy of the Cuban revolution is to engage in day dreaming.

Thus the news about the efforts of the American government to effect “regime change” inspite of President Obama’s promises at the Summit of the Americas in April and the evolving normalization of relations between the two countries should be of NO surprise to anyone with a sliver of understanding of the strategy of US imperialism towards the Cuban revolution.

The fact is that the successive US governments and the white supremacist political, economic, cultural, ideological and psychological infrastructure that surround and support them will NEVER forget or forgive the Cuban revolutionaries and its people for having destroyed the myth that their power could not have been challenged and removed from all spheres of Cuban life.

Further, the imperialists and their servants will NEVER forgive or forget the fact that the Cuban people actually eradicated the socio-economic and socio-political inequalities, poverty, hunger and other manifestations of structural underdevelopment that dependent capitalism implanted on that beautiful island of Marti and Maceo.

Additionally ,they will NEVER forgive or forget the fact that in order to remove those structural inequities that monopoly capitalism implanted in Cuba, Cuba and its people replaced capitalism with the socialist system which has provided the majority of the Cubans with a generally better life than capitalism offered them.

Finally, the US imperialists even under the leadership of the smiling and perhaps well meaning Obama will NEVER forgive or forget the example of Cuba’s alternative to the peoples in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and elsewhere in the world in resisting imperialism. They will NEVER forgive or forget Cuba’s multiple military, education and health missions of internationalism in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau and elsewhere such as Haiti, Venezuela, Ecuador, Jamaica, Grenada and others.

In closing, the imperialists will NEVER forgive or forget that the Cuban people and their revolution represent a profound hole and black eye for white supremacy and all of its structural infrastructure that create and maintain global imperialism. If anyone doubts the malice and revenge of US imperialism towards the Cuban revolution think for a moment about their vindictiveness towards the Haitian people for having led the very first successful revolution of black people in the so called Western world since 1804. The white supremacists in France, Britain,America and elsewhere have never forgotten the revolutionary example of the Haitians against slavery and imperialism and have punished them mercilessly for their example.

The Cubans are well aware of this history and will not abandon their viligance and preparation to do battle with imperialism even as they open their hearts and minds to diplomatic gestures as another front of political battles.

Peace if you are willing to fight for it!
