Cuba: Women with Remarkable Results in Diverse Fields of Work Awarded

cuban women's fed awards 2014On the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), an organization founded by heroine Vilma Espín Guillois in 1960, a total of 23 outstanding women of this Cuban province were awarded for their important contributions in different areas of the local economy and society.

With the attendance of high level political and government officials, several members of the above-mentioned NGO also signed the Book of Honor of the Camagüeyan Women. Others were granted the August 23rd Distinction and another group received a special diploma in a ceremony held at the VIP lounge Nicolás Guillén, which is located at Ignacio Agramonte Revolution Square in this town.

Eduardo López Leyva, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, praised the conquests of the Camagueyan women in all spheres of society and recalled how many of these political and labour rights are still a longing in many parts of the world.

A special recognition to Anielka Fernández del Monte

For her part, Tania Díaz Bermúdez, general secretary of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation (CTC) in this province, presented a special recognition to Anielka Fernández del Monte, who on behalf of all women in this province accepted the prize.  

Among the people who received words of praise and awards were intellectuals, teachers, scientists, farmers, retired women, FMC and grass-root cadres.
